Recognizing the Signs

IMG_9505Hi, all welcome back to my blog I hope everyone is having a great week, I’m back with a piece for my mental health awareness series. Its been a while but I don’t want to just put up a post for the sake of it, I want what I put out to be helpful and to spread awareness in a positive way. This post is about recognizing the signs, this piece will be helpful and informative not just for a person suffering from mental illness but for the persons family and friends. It’s important to recognize the signs so you can seek treatment sooner for a better chance of recovery and to gain the tools to maintain your mental health. Iv spoken a lot in the past post about maintaining your mental health and a big part of it is your support system.

I know from personal experience that having a strong support system behind you that can recognize the signs and can communicate them to you in the right way it makes all the difference.

I had an experience a couple of your ago, I had been in great health for a long time and one day I woke up and didn’t feel quite myself something was off that I couldn’t put my finger on and having come so far I was scared to even entertain the idea that I might be having a relapse of some sort. This went on for about a week or so  before my mother came to me and said “are you ok?” you don’t look yourself, you’re quiet and you don’t seem yourself”, and at that moment I felt a huge weight off my shoulder, she said what I couldn’t , she started a conversation I couldn’t myself but I needed and with that it was back to recovery again it was that simple for me. She recognized my signs and acted on it and now I know she understands.

So in this post, I want to go through some signs and changes to look out for:

Change in Sleep and appetite:

Not being able to sleep, feeling and looking fatigued during the day that starts affecting your day and loss of appetite.

Change in Personality:

If you notice a change in personality, becoming withdrawn, not wanting to be social and becoming isolated from people in your life. Becoming disconnected and unable to communicate with people.

Lack of Self-care:

A person who is suffering from mental health illness often loss concern for personal health and hygiene, you may notice a change in their appearance. when you’re dealing with mental health issues it difficult to maintain daily actives like these.

Mood Changes:

This is something that affects me a lot, people will notice my mood changes first, you can become emotions out of nowhere or on the other hand quick to anger, it can be a rollercoaster of emotions with again makes it hard to function.

Becoming overwhelmed:

when your suffering with a mental health illness everything can feel very difficult to achieve. Activities in your everyday life can be so overwhelming you feel like giving up.

These are a few signs that I feel are commonly notices, I know from my family that they used to notice with me and there the best people to ask in my opponent.
