Hi, all welcome back to my blog I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. As you can tell from the title this is a new topic for my blog, true crime is something I’ve always been interested in since I was a teenager, I read every true crime book I could find in my teens it fascinated me and still does. I was mostly drawn to the Irish true crime stories and the story that stuck with me all these years that I still google to check the status on cases is known as “Irelands vanishing triangle”.

What is the ” irelands vanishing triangle” ?

The vanishing triangle is a term used by the Irish media in reference to a number of women who went missing in the mid to late 1990s. They were a group of women similar in age that disappeared suddenly with no clues or evidence left behind, there was no evidence that these disappearances were connected but they all when missing in the eastern part of the island on the boundaries of Leinster. Women were going missing every year.

Some of these disappearances happened in broad daylight with people around yet for them split seconds when a person goes missing nobody seen anything, that’s what really baffled me. How is that possible?

With this post, I just want to write a summary about each woman and what’s known of their last moments before vanishing. I will do individual posts for each person telling their full story. It’s been over 20years and these women and their families have no closure or justice so I want to just shine a light on their stories again.

Annie Mc Carrick

Annie Mc Carrick (26) was from long island New York

Annie went missing on the 26th of March 1993, Annie was living in Sandymount co Dublin with roommates who were away the weekend she disappeared. she was set to prepare a meal for some friends who were dropping by that evening which she was looking forward to. Early in the day, she decided to go for a walk in the Wicklow mountains which is something she loved to do. Annie did ask a friend if she would like to join her but she had to decline. Annie took a bus to Wicklow and was spotted by people on the bus that knew her, that was the last confirmed sighting of her. Her friends arrived for the meal that evening to find an empty apartment and assumed she had forgotten their plans, it wasn’t until her roommates got home and were made aware she hadn’t arrived at work, that’s when the alarm was raised. It’s clear from the plans she made that Annie didn’t disappear intentionally. no trace has been found of Annie.

Eva Brennan

Eva Brennan (39) from Terenure, Co Dublin

Eva went missing on the 25th of July 1993, she was last seen when she left her parent’s home where she had Sunday lunch. when her family hadn’t heard from her in 3 days her father entered her home and found that the coat she wore to the family home on Sunday confirming she did make it home but there were no other signs of her.

Imelda Keenan

Imelda Keenan (22) Waterford

Imelda went missing on the 3rd January 1994, she was living with her boyfriend in Waterford. On the day she disappeared she told her boyfriend she was going to the local post office, she was last seen by a person who knew her well crossing the street in the town and was never seen again.

Josephine “jo jo” Dullard

Josephine “jo jo” Dullard (21) callan co kildare

Jojo went missing on the 9th of November 1995, Jojo had been living in Harolds cross Dublin but had decided she wanted to move back to Kildare where she grow up and where her family still lived, on the day she disappeared she was tying up loose ends in Dublin and saying goodbye to friends before returning home. Jojo missed the last bus and decided to hitchhike. she managed to get a lift to the town of Moon, Kildare, then made a phone call to a friend from a phone box in Moon. during the call, Jojo left the box as she saw a car coming, moments later she returned to the phone box and told her friend she had gotten a lift. That was the last anyone ever heard from Jojo.

Ciara Breen

Ciara Breen (17) Dundalk co louth

Ciara went missing on the 13th February 1997, she was last seen by her mother at midnight before she headed off to bed. later the night at around 2 am Ciara’s mother when to check on her but found her bed empty and her window ajar, she was never seen again, Ciara clearly left the window on the latch so she could re-enter, all signs indicate Ciara intended to return before her mother woke in the morning.

Fiona Pender

Fiona Pender (25) Tullamore co offaly

Fiona Pender went missing on the 23rd of August 1996, Fiona was 7 months pregnant at the time she disappeared. She was living in a flat in Tullamore town with her boyfriend while she was awaiting the arrival of her baby, she was last seen in the early hours of the morning by her boyfriend before he headed to work on his family’s farm. no trace has been found of Fiona or her unborn child.

Fionna Sinnott

Fiona sinnott (25) rosslare, co wexford

Fiona Sinnott went missing on the 8th of February 1998, she left behind a baby daughter. The night before Fiona disappeared she was enjoying an evening with some friends at the broadway pub, co Wexford a short distance from her home, during the evening Fiona complained of a pain in her arm, Fiona’s ex-boyfriend and father of their child who was also at the pub had offered to walk her home because she was feeling so unwell. He spent the night on the couch. He was the last person to see her the following morning. He stated Fiona was in bed still feeling unwell when he was leaving, he also stated that Fiona indicated she was going to head into the town to see the doctor, he left her £3 as she didn’t have money. His mother picked him up that morning and that was the last confirmed sighting of Fiona. Fiona’s daughter was in the care of her ex-boyfriend’s (baby’s father) family at the time of her disappearance.

Deirdre Jacob

Deirdre Jacob (18) Newbridge co kildare

Deirdre went missing on the 18th July 1998. Deirdre lived in Twickenham London where she was studying at st marys university, she had returned to her hometown of Kildare for summer break. On the day she disappeared she had been running some errands in the town and was making her way home. Deirdre was last seen walking towards her house, she was just yards from her front door when she vanished, she was seen by a neighbor walking but never made it home.
