SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (SAD)

This is a form of depression, It generally hits people in the winter months. Its a really disabling form of depression that people can’t function normally during these months without treatment. Its also known as the “Winter Blues”

The symptoms include disturbed sleep, lack of energy, which make it hard for people to carry out there normal daily routines due to fatigue. Alone with the more serve symptoms associated with depression such as feeling sad, low, weepy. the feeling of helplessness and despair, loss of motivation and being unable to concentrate.

It’s really important to seek help from your GP who will be able to find you the right therapy to help you cope and ease your symptoms, your GP may also recommend medication depending on the individual. There are also other things you can do to help yourself to ease the symptoms, its really important to get as much exposure to daylight as you can, go for a walk early and get fresh air it will make a difference. Try to engage in activities that you enjoy, with any type of depression it’s always good to be active and do things you enjoy and make you feel good it will improve your mood. Also eating well and exercise, these to things are really important, when you exercise it released those good endorphins in your brain that boost your mood.
