Maintaining your mental health

Hi, all welcome back to my blog! As you know I write about a variety of topics on this blog, things that I love, I’m interested in and am very passionate about. I have a series focused on mental health and awareness. I get asked a lot about how to do you maintain your mental health and stay in a positive and healthy place. So I wanted to share a few tips that I find helpful. It’s something I’m really active with I do a lot of research on this topic.

Obviously, everybody is different and what works for some might not work for others. The new one thing I do and I encourage people to do is put yourself first!! I listen to what my body is telling me. You can work yourself into the ground and have all the material thing in the world but if you don’t have your health it means nothing and your mental health is something that gets pushed to the side a lot, I know this too well I did it myself but you live and learn.

This might sound corny but embrace yourself will help boost your confidence and will make you feel more comfortable in your own skin. Obviously, I’m here I’m pretty much an open book, that’s what helps me, its such a big part of my life, I’m a strong healthy women I have a lot of pride in myself for getting through what I have to become who I am today and I own it with pride so my advice is own it!! I know that’s hard at the beginning, there is the stigma out there and the worry of how people will perceive you or treat you, the one thing I always tell myself and other is “HOW PEOPLE TREAT YOU IS A REFLECTION ON THEM AND NOT YOU”.Always hold on to that.

Having a good community of people around you that understand and support you is so important, having that support system makes all the difference. A person with a strong support system tends to be healthier and happier.

Remember to take time for yourself, day to day life can take over and get overwhelming so its important to take the time out to de-stress and do something for yourself that you find relaxing, for me it going for a run, working out and wrestling, these are things I enjoy and find are good stress reliever for me , everyone difference so finding what works for you a hobby you can get into.

Its all about having a healthy balance in your life, I know its easier said than done, you need to take the time to make time for yourself. What I found works best for me is having a schedule, I get up at a certain time, I make time for my work, my writing, my workouts and I make sure not to overload myself. Eating well and getting plenty of sleep is key. For me, sleep is a big thing, your mind and body need that time to recharge.

And my number one thing is exercise!! I say this all the time to anyone who will listen!! lol, I’m like a pirate about it I no but its Fact!! When you exercise the endorphins released into your brain leads to an overall more positive mood.

My advice for anyone who is trying or struggling to stay in a positive headspace I would recommend keeping a journal. I love to write a lot and I find keeping a journal is a great way to get things out of your system. It’s a way to vent and get all your frustrations out and onto paper and you can let it go and move on.
