Sweet Sunday- Chocolate Bears

IMG_9505Hi, all welcome back to my blog I hope everyone is enjoying there weekend. Iv had a pretty crazy emotional week, I lost an aunt that I loved dearly this week, my grandmother lived with her and her family when I was growing up and they both share my love for baking, it was past down generate to generate. So this week I didn’t have time to prepare anything for sweet Sunday iv just been with family. But before my aunt got really ill I had picked up the ingredients for an apple tart because I wanted to make her one, I know it was her favorite but before I got a chance to make it she was too ill and wasn’t able to eat, so yesterday I decided to go ahead and make the pie. Baking relaxes me and is always a good distraction when I’m going through something I’m better when I’m keeping busy.

It was while I was making the pie ( the recipe is already up here ill link it below) that I put together this recipe for chocolate bears. I hate to waste leftover pastry so I usually have a leftover apple too so I just make little apple pies but this time I had no apple but I did have pastry shapes and some Nutella so I make the little treats. It was perfect because some of my nephews don’t like apple pie so the could have these instead! This is  a really simple recipe and a lot of fun to make, kids will enjoy helping out with this one. I’m going to go through the ingredients and how-tos below I hope you enjoy and give this a try yourselves.

All You Need:

  • 1½ cups plain flour
  • ½ stick margarine (chopped into small squares)
  • 3-4 tbsp water
  • ½ cup Nutella
  • 1 egg (beaten)

Start by preheating your oven to 170℃ and prep your baking tray with baking paper and set aside.

In a medium bowl sift in the flour and then add the chopped margarine. Use your fingers to rub the margarine into the flour till it resembles bread crumbs. Add the water and use a wooden spoon to stir into soft dough.

Roll out the pastry and use your bear shaped pastry cutter to cut out the shapes. Use a pastry brush and brush the beaten egg on the edge of the pastry. Place a small teaspoon amount of Nutella in the middle of the bear and place another bear on top, seal the edges with your fingers and place on baking tray, do this with the rest of the dough and baking for 15 minutes or until bears come out golden brown in color. Leave to cool before serving.
