Baking Saturday: mini apple pies

Hi, all welcome back to sweet Sunday I hope everyone had a wonderful and positive week.Iv been making some big life changes this week which I will be sharing with you in a separate post, it has distracted me and I didn’t have a lot of time to decide on a sweet Sunday post. I pulled out an old traditional one.My grandmother could make these in her sleep and I’m almost at the point myself!lol, She did teach me well after all.I really hope you enjoy this one.

This week I baked mini apple pie squares. This is a really traditional recipe, nothing complicated.I always keep the ingredients for this on in the house for emergencies, if someones coming over I can wipe them up fast, its a good recipe to have on hand.Give it a try yourself.

All you need is:

  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1 stick of stork margarine
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 Jars of applesauce
  • 1 egg beaten well

Start by preheating your oven to 180℃ and prepare your pie trays ( grease with butter). beat the egg in a cup and set aside for later. this recipe makes 24 apple pies.

Sift flour into a medium bowl, chop the margarine into small squares and add to the flour. Use your fingers to mix the margarine into the flour until it resembles bread crumbs.Add the water and mix to soft dough .Turn the dough onto a floured board, roll out have the pastry to the size of your pie trays.

Put a teaspoon of applesauce into each square and sprinkle with sugar to sweeten. Use a pastry brush to brush the egg on the pastry edges to seal.

Roll out the rest of the pastry and place on top, press the edges to seal and use a knife to cut away excess pastry. Brush the top of the pies with egg mixture. Cut the top of each pie to allow steam to escape. Please in the oven and bake for 25 minutes until golden brown, eat hot or cold.
