多くの企業が、従業員の命を優先し、感染拡大防止に努め、困難に立ち向かいながらも事業継続性を維持する様々な取り組みを行っています。歴史的にみて、危機や脅威は常に人の変革を促してきましたが、今回の事態も企業に変化をもたらす大きな試練となったのかもしれません。

連日、新型コロナウイルスによる様々なビジネスへの影響が、多くのメディアで取り上げられています。その中でも、長く保たれてきた企業の働き方の変貌に関する記事がありました。海外のメディアが、日本企業の職場で長時間働くという働き方の変化について取り上げていることが印象に残りました。

Fortune誌は次のように述べています。「何万人ものスタッフにテレワークを義務付けたり、推奨したりしている企業がますます増えています。パナソニック、NEC、および三菱もその一部です。こうした変化は、日本国内の企業が、柔軟な業務形態を今後も取り入れていくのか試しているようです。何十年にもわたり、生産性や効率性以上に重視されてきた“物理的な職場にいること”、“忍耐強く長時間働くこと”という働き方の通念を覆しています。」

日本は、間もなく東京オリンピックを迎えます。多くの企業が再びテレワークによって、交通混雑の緩和に協力することでしょう。日本の働き方は大きな変革期を迎えているのかもしれません。

お隣の韓国でも、これまで従業員は“職場”で大半の時間を費やしてきました。部下は、上司より先に退社してはいけないという長時間労働につながるルールが韓国の企業文化の一つとして多くの企業に存在していたようです。
The Korea Herald誌は、新型コロナウイルスの発生により、一時的にせよ、韓国の職場に劇的な変化が起きていると報道しました。Samsung、LG、KTを始めとする主要企業の多くは、従業員に自宅で仕事をする事やフレックスタイム制を推奨しています。

日本や韓国では“職場”で働くことが長らく当たり前とされてきました。しかしこうした慣習は一部地域に限られるものではなく、実は世界に共通しているものなのです。コンサルティング会社のPwCは最近、事業継続性を維持するために企業が取り得る手段に注目しているようです。そこから得られた教訓は、前述の課題への対応方法によっては、将来、その企業を成功に導く可能性があるということです。さらに、Harvard Business Reviewは、企業が大きな混乱に対処できる5つのステップを紹介しています。その最初のステップは、「すべてまたは一部の従業員はリモートで働く必要があると認識する」こととしています。もはやテレワークができる環境を用意することはすべての企業にとって必須といえるかもしれません。

今回、一時的な措置としてテレワークの導入を行った企業も多いと思いますが、有効性が分かった今、恒久的な対策として普及することが予想されます。

今後もこうした環境をいつでも利用できるようにすることが今後のチャレンジでしょう。情報システム部門など一部の部門が不眠不休で緊急対策に窮することなく、いつでも柔軟に対応できるようにしておくことが大切です。特にテクノロジーを有効活用するテレワークの場合、情報セキュリティ面での安全性を十分に考慮しておかなければなりません。テレワークにおける“新しい職場”は、情報＝データを中心にしたインターネットにつながるサイバー空間です。テレワーク中であったとしても、情報漏えい事故の発生はあってはなりません。

企業と従業員を守るには“安全なデジタルワークスペース”が重要です。

シトリックスは、従業員が自宅で仕事をする際にデータやアプリケーションに“安全に”アクセスできる環境を実現します。従業員が、それぞれ離れた場所で働いていても、チームとして作業できるセキュリティが高い環境、つまり“安全なデジタルワークスペース”を提供します。デバイスと、データとの間に、安全なデジタル境界線を引くことで、どのようなデバイスでも安全に作業できます。

安全なデジタルワークスペースでセキュリティを守ることは“人を守る”ことにもつながります。今後テレワークを定着させるなら、“職場“が「サイバー空間」まで広がっていることを認識しつつ環境をご用意ください。
